If you’re in the Denver Metro staring at a car with no keys and no title, you can still donate it through Ride Revive. The keys are not a deal-breaker. The title is the important piece. In Colorado, you’ll first request a duplicate title from the DMV. Once that arrives, we’ll schedule a free tow that can safely load your keyless vehicle and you’ll still receive a tax receipt for your donation to Heritage for the Blind.
Here’s how it typically works for donors from Aurora, Lakewood, Thornton, Littleton, or right in Capitol Hill or Washington Park: you start a duplicate title application with the Colorado DMV (online or at a DMV office). While you’re waiting the 1–4 weeks for that to come in the mail, we help you plan the logistics—like confirming a flatbed tow can reach your driveway, alley, or apartment lot. When your new title arrives, you sign it over, we arrange nationwide free pickup, and your problem vehicle is gone without you paying a dime.
How to get your free pickup scheduled
1. Confirm your car’s location and tow access in Denver Metro
Look at where the car is parked—driveway in Arvada, alley in Baker, apartment lot in Aurora, or a garage in Highlands Ranch. Make sure a flatbed tow truck could reasonably reach it. It doesn’t need to run and it doesn’t need keys, but it does need clear access so the driver can safely load it.
2. Apply for a Colorado duplicate title right away
In most cases, you’ll need a duplicate title before Ride Revive can complete your donation. Go to the Colorado DMV website or your county motor vehicle office (Denver, Jefferson, Arapahoe, Adams, Douglas, etc.) and request a duplicate title. It usually costs a small fee and takes about 1–4 weeks to arrive by mail.
3. Start your donation with Ride Revive while the title processes
You don’t have to wait in silence. Once you’ve applied for the duplicate title, contact Ride Revive. Tell us the car has no keys and that your duplicate title is in progress. We’ll note your situation, answer questions about next steps, and be ready to schedule pickup as soon as your new title comes in.
4. Receive your duplicate title and sign it over
When the new Colorado title arrives, sign it according to the instructions we provide. This usually means signing on the seller line exactly as your name appears. Having the title properly signed is what legally allows Ride Revive to complete the donation and ensures you get the correct tax documents for your deduction.
5. Schedule free keyless pickup anywhere in the Denver Metro
With title in hand, we schedule your free tow—whether the vehicle is in Downtown Denver, Green Valley Ranch, Lakewood, Westminster, or Parker. Tell us again that the car has no keys so we send the right flatbed equipment. The driver will load the vehicle without needing to start it, and you pay nothing for the tow.
6. Get your tax receipt and help Heritage for the Blind
After pickup, your vehicle is processed and sold, and the proceeds support Heritage for the Blind, a 501(c)(3) serving people who are blind or visually impaired. You’ll receive a tax receipt—typically at least $500 in value—and if the deduction exceeds $500, you’ll use IRS Form 1098-C when you file your taxes.
Potential complications to watch for
Colorado title must be in your name or properly assigned
Tip: If the last title wasn’t in your name (for example, it was a relative’s car or never transferred after a sale), the DMV may need extra paperwork, like a bill of sale or a death certificate. Ask the DMV what’s required before you apply so your duplicate title request isn’t delayed.
No keys means we must know access details upfront
Tip: A car without keys usually needs a flatbed and sometimes dollies or a winch. When scheduling, describe exactly where and how the car is parked—nose-in, backed against a fence, in an underground garage, or on a steep driveway. Accurate details help us send the right truck the first time and avoid rescheduling.
Lien or loan still showing on the record
Tip: If a bank or finance company still shows as holding a lien in Colorado’s records, the DMV may not issue a clean duplicate title until that lien is released. Contact the lender for a lien release letter if the loan is paid off. Bringing that to the DMV can prevent your duplicate title from being rejected.
Non-Colorado titled vehicles parked in Denver
Tip: If your car is titled in another state but sitting in Denver, you usually must request the duplicate title from that original state’s DMV, not Colorado’s. Check that state’s website for forms, fees, and timing. Once you have that duplicate title, Ride Revive can still arrange free pickup in the Denver Metro.
